Need To Put Your RV Away For The Rest Of The Winter? 5 Things To Make Sure You Do
If you are planning on putting your RV away for the rest of the winter, you need to do a few things before you put your RV to rest until the spring or summer time.
#1 Go For One Last Drive
Take your RV on one last drive. On this drive, turn off the radio and really listen to your RV. See if you hear any strange pings or sounds coming from your vehicle. If you do, you are going to want to take your RV to your mechanic before you store it for the winter. You don't want to put your RV into storage when it is experiencing issues; it is better to fix these issues before you put your RV away.
#2 Deal With The Liquids
Change the oil in your RV and make sure that you change the oil filter as well. This will help the oil maintain its integrity while your RV is in storage. You should also make sure that the fuel tank is full of fuel as well as add a fuel stabilizer. This will help the fuel not degrade over the months that your RV sits idle.
#3 Disconnect The Car Battery
Next, you are going to want to disconnect the RV's battery. When you disconnect the RV's battery, you are going to want it set it up in your garage on a maintenance charger. This will help ensure that your battery doesn't lose all of its charge while it sets idle. In order for your battery to maintain its charge, it needs to be used constantly, or it will discharge all the way, and you will not be able to use it next spring.
#4 Disconnect & Clean Air Conditioner
Then, make some time to disconnect all the air conditioning connects. If you have external exhaust vents, cover them up with paper or stuff them so that no little critters try to get inside of your vehicle via the air vents while it is in storage. Be sure to also take out the air filters and clean them; you don't want the debris to accumulate on the air filters, and it could be harder to clean the filter after all that debris has sit on the filter for months.
#5 Cover Up The RV
Finally, you are going to want to cover up the RV. Place protective tarps around each of your RV's tires to protect them from wear and tear while sitting in your storage unit at a facility like United Moving and Storage. Then, put a breathable tarp or cover that is made for your RV over it. This will help protect your RV from the natural elements if it is stored outside and will help keep pests away from your RV if it is stored inside.
