Life Is Grand: Three Reasons to Move the Baby Grand Piano Last
Putting a piano in storage can be difficult due to the size. A baby grand piano is still a large machine and will require a special storage unit of its own. If you have already purchased a piano storage unit during your move, the truck will be getting the piano out of the home without ruining it or other items. Here are three reasons why you should clear out your home and yard before you start to move your piano.
Insurance may not cover mishaps
Though accidents or the loss of major equipment may be covered through your renters or homeowner's insurance. Moving a piano by any means has a high risk of tipping, falling, or having something go wrong. If your baby grand piano or other items are ruined during a move, you will have no way of recovering the money that you spent on any of your property. You want to make sure that when you move the piano you have the fewest liabilities possible so that you incur no extra fees.
Remove any tripping hazards
If you are intending on moving a baby grand with several people, this is a viable option. When people move a piano together, they will be able to sit it down, make sure that it goes through cracks, and keep hands on the item at all times. Along with the good comes the bad, which is human error. There is always the chance that someone could trip when attempting to carry the piano along. With everything moved out of your home and the piano likely residing on the main level, there will be much less to possibly trip over.
No last minute items going with the piano
If you elect to clear out your home before you move your baby grand, you will not have to worry about putting anything inside of the moving truck with your piano. Since the piano should be strapped down, it may not move, but the other items may move and scrape against the legs of the piano. This can decrease the value of your piano, plus ruin the aesthetic. Be sure that the entire house is clear before taking your piano to storage. Remember to use the appropriate padding, then the right tools to strap the piano down in the moving truck. This will decrease the possibility of the piano getting wrecked while on the way to safe keeping.
