Can Moving With Kids Can Be Fun? Here's How To Make It So

Posted on

Moving to a new home could be one of the most exciting moments for you, mainly when moving to the one you just bought or built. However, you shouldn't ignore the fact that the moving process could also be stressful. In fact, moving could also be more daunting when you have young kids. You need to prepare them for the move so they can easily get accustomed to the new environment. Of course, they will first be excited about it, but it's good to know that it could also stress them out. Fortunately, moving with kids can be fun if you do the following three things.

Ask Them How They Feel About the Move

As you plan to move, you should involve your kids and let them say what they think about it. It's usually easier for children to take a move positively when they feel engaged. Involve them in all the preparation steps, such as organizing and cleaning the house. You could also let them help you unpack and set up your new house. This way, they feel involved and happier about the move.

Ask Them to Choose What to Carry

Don't assume that your kids need to take everything with them. So ask them to select the items they want to carry and those they want to give to friends, donate to charity, or throw away. Where possible, you should let the kids sort the items or things in their room. They, of course, know the books or games they want to carry, or the puzzles or clothes they may want to throw away or donate. If they have stuffed animals, they will select the ones to move with and those to leave behind. This way, your kids help make moving preparation easier for you. They help you pack what they need, allowing you to be involved in other things as they sort their rooms.

Let Them Help Decorate the Moving Boxes

You definitely need to have enough moving boxes to make packing easier. However, you need to know what to pack in each box to avoid confusion. When possible, decorate the boxes to know the ones with fragile items and those with non-fragile ones. And since kids like painting, let them help paint the boxes with your guidance. Labeled boxes make your work easier because you can easily identify the contents in each box. Also, the painting or labeling process helps the kids avoid relocation stress. They may get excited when personalizing the boxes with stickers and makers.
